Privacy Runway is about protecting people, and that begins with how we treat one another.
Privacy Runway is a project of Youth for Privacy, a volunteer-run nonprofit fiscally sponsored by Aspiration. We are committed to a safe, respectful, and harassment-free experience for everyone involved: designers, artist-engineers, models, crew, volunteers, staff, press, and attendees, at every in-person and online activity connected to the project. This Code of Conduct draws on established community standards and on Youth for Privacy's Child Safeguarding Policy.
This Code applies to everyone taking part in Privacy Runway: participants, collaborators, models, backstage and event-day crew, volunteers, YFP staff, and guests. It covers all program spaces, including the New York Privacy Fashion Show, workshops, pop-ups, online channels, and any associated social or press events.
The following will not be tolerated from anyone, in any Privacy Runway space:
Selected participants must be 18 or older, but our audiences and community include young people, and safeguarding is central to Youth for Privacy. Everyone acting on behalf of the project must:
A show about surveillance takes consent seriously. Photography and filming take place at our events for press and documentation, and we honour anyone's choice not to be captured. Attendees who do not wish to be photographed can tell any crew member or opt out at registration. Designers, models, and crew agree separately, in writing, to the use of their name, work, and likeness in the press kit and project materials. We collect the minimum personal data needed and handle it in line with Youth for Privacy's privacy practices.
If you experience or witness a breach of this Code, please report it. You can speak to any identified Privacy Runway staff member or event lead on site, or contact our Safeguarding Officer confidentially:
Report to: fashion@youthforprivacy.org, monitored by the Privacy Runway team and Youth for Privacy's Safeguarding Officer.
Reports are documented securely and acted on promptly, within 24 hours where possible. Where a report concerns the safety of a minor, we follow applicable mandated-reporting laws, including California's, and will notify external child-protection authorities where required.
We will not retaliate against, and will not tolerate retaliation toward, anyone who reports in good faith. We will respect the privacy and dignity of everyone involved.
Privacy Runway staff may take any action they consider appropriate, up to and including a warning, removal from an event or program without refund or stipend, and referral to venue security or authorities. Designers, crew, and volunteers acknowledge this Code before participating, and understand that failing to comply may result in removal from Privacy Runway activities.
By taking part in Privacy Runway, as a participant, collaborator, model, crew member, volunteer, or staff, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by this Code of Conduct and Youth for Privacy's safeguarding procedures.
